When I met the husband, one of the many things I learned is that trivia is a big part of British culture. This love affair with head-scratchers is most often seen in the form of pub trivia, a phenomenon that has migrated to the US in recent years. And though these events, for me at least, are little more than public displays of incompetence, I do participate in (read: contribute nothing to) pub trivia from time to time. Barring the occasional Tudor history or grammar question, I sit there like a lump of useless corpuscles. These embarrassing experiences have, though, made me privy to some inventive team names . . .

  • A Team Has No Name
  • Les Quizérables
  • James & the Giant Impeachment
  • The Quizard of Oz

. . . though top team-naming honors must go to my friend Brent and his trivia team: The Credible Hulks.

The British penchant for Q&A becomes most pronounced, however, during the Christmas season. For that reason, I’m ending this year of blogging by presenting you with some travel-themed trivia for your holiday celebrations. The great thing about trivia at home is that there’s something for everyone. Hate trivia? You can ask the questions.

As promised on Podcast episode 102, I present you with the complete set of trivia questions and answers we used to get people mixing at our Travel Bucket List Party & Fundraiser.

Have fun, good luck, Happy Holidays, and see you in the new year!

  1. Oh yay, I’ve been looking forward to this post! I saved my answers (correct and incorrect) from last time and reused them here, then answered all the new questions, and I definitely did better last time. I was doing okay until the tie-breaker questions, at which point I pretty much face-planted. Oh well. I ended up with 20/35 and learned lots of new fun facts! Happy Holidays!

    1. Wow – you are organized. I’m impressed! That is a very respectable score! Happy Holidays to you, too. I am nervous that a Minnesota snowstorm is going to ground us and prevent us from leaving for Death Valley. Cross your fingers for us! 🤞

      1. We did make it! The timing of our flight was very lucky. This morning we went out to Dante’s View to watch the sun illuminate the valley. I attempted a Diana-like handstand in your honor. As you can imagine, it didn’t go well. 😂 Hope you can remain storm-free. Enjoy the white Christmas!

  2. Oh this is fantastic! What a great compilation of quiz questions. 🙂 (side note, I made your tiramisu recipe for my anniversary and hubby couldn’t believe that I made it. Thanks for helping me get some bonus points with the hubby!)

  3. Don’t feel bad. We recently did some pub quiz nights here and I repeatedly felt like an idiot. It’s especially embarrassing because, as someone who has spent a fair amount of time traveling, you would think I’d be good with geography. Alas, not so much.

Ah well, I learned some fun new facts with this post so, maybe next time I’ll be able to wow my teammates with random trivia knowledge! I’ll let you know how it goes! 🙂

  5. We did bar trivia last week for the first time. It was fun, but I, too, felt useless. My only contribution was having been the person to suggest it. Our team came in third, though! And we intend to go back, maybe next week. I love the team names you listed. We may have to steal one of those. Your trivia was also interesting. With any luck, one of those will be asked the next time we go! (No guarantee I’ll remember the answer, however.)
