A year ago today we were in Nong Khiaw, Laos, having one of the best Boxing Days of our lives. In a few short hours we would dine on the meal that would bring about the illness we had tried so hard to protect against. Gastrointestinal ailments aside, though, we would see many beautiful faces on that trip. Here are the ones I managed to capture. Happy Boxing Day one and all!

    1. That sounds like a wonderful and heartbreaking job all at the same time. Where do I sign up? 😉 It’s difficult to grasp the far-reaching effect of this pandemic on the travel industry, not to mention everything else. We just got a WhatsApp message from our beloved guide from that trip. We’re pretty sure he hasn’t worked much in the last year. Thankfully his wife is employed, but I’m sure there are many unlucky ones.

We were in Cambodia for a little less than half of our two-week trip, but we loved it (and Laos as well). We were getting ready to host a fundraiser for the landmine museum when COVID hit the US. I still have everything and hope to resurrect it once this pandemic ends. Happy New Year to you!

  1. These are such beautiful photos! I would love to visit Laos one day to take in the culture and sights. I’ve heard it’s less crowded and thus more enjoyable then elsewhere in Southeast Asia. Thanks for sharing and I hope you had a lovely Christmas. Aiva 🙂

    1. We met some people on the trip who were revisiting Luang Prabang and had been to several other Asian/SE Asian countries. They expressed surprise that we would choose Laos and Cambodia for our first time in Asia. I think they thought we would go somewhere more “known,” but we loved everything about it.

We did and I hope you did, too. Do you celebrate Boxing Day in Ireland and/or Latvia? If so, Happy Boxing Day!

      1. Was that us?!
We were just thinking about last year and celebrating Christmas Eve with that Buddhist ceremony then the Buffet and the Travel Architect went to bed while we kept going! Happy Days ! Hope you had a great Christmas and look forward to seeing you in Bath sometime ! Cath and Andy

      2. It was, or, to put that in a Christmassy way: ‘Twas. I’m sorry I’m such a late night loser. I’d like to blame it on the jet lag, but I’m that pathetic 24/7/365. However, if you need me at 4:30 a.m., I’m your woman!

Funny you should mention that. A few weeks ago (when I was busy getting your address for the card) I Google-mapped London to Bath. Totally doable! We hope to see you in the not-too-distant!
