Nobody would ever accuse me of being a skilled photographer, but that doesn’t stop me from trying to capture images as I move about the planet. I’m especially intrigued by unique doors. Below are some doors I’ve photographed over the years on our domestic and international travels. Enjoy!
Can’t get enough doors and windows from around the world? Here are some more.
All of these look very cool! My favourite is the one in Marcolés, France.

Thanks! Yes, that door is beautiful in a simple way, but the flowers around it are just stunning. And the teeny tiny town is in the middle of nowhere in south-central France where tourists probably hardly ever go.

These are such beautiful photos and these are such beautiful doors. I love doors, too; they are a first glimpse into the heart of a home. There is even a special name – “Doortraits” – dedicated to capturing portraits of them. Back in seventeenth century Dutch artists had a passion for painting doors and windows; they wanted to simultaneously represent both home and street life. Thanks for sharing and have a good day. I enjoyed your photos very much. Aiva 😊

Thank you – I’m glad you enjoyed them. I didn’t know you had an inner art historian! 🙂

Valters cousin lives in Amsterdam with her family. Over the years, by re-visiting Holland, I’ve learned a few things about the way they live their lives and know a few historical facts. 😀

I love doors too, and windows. These are great pictures, you are a photographer!! I think I like the Marcoles photo best. Maggie

Thanks. That Marcoles one seems to be coming out on top. My “windows” post will come out one of these days, too.

Travel Architect, did you find it weird that everyone in Buena Vista Colorado pronounces it Beeyoona Vista?
Makes me nuts!

With nine years of Spanish under my belt, it drives me crazy. The husband regularly calls it by its nickname – which locals pronounce Byoonee – just to irritate me.

Holy cow, really? That’s just wrong.

I like the Marcolés, France door the best BUT all of them are wonderful. We all live so differently, but the same. Gotta have a door.

Great set of doors! You should post more and link to Norm’s Thursday Doors prompt. I like the Egyptian-themed door and the one with the giant keyhole best.

Fabulous photos and fabulous post. I think it really reinforces how privileged we are that we can travel (Covid-permitting) and record our adventures and the cultures of so many countries in DOORS! Mel.

Thank you. Very true. It also shows that something as functional and everyday as a door can also be a work of art.

Love the international flavor of your doors. They’ve awakened my travel bug. The details are amazing, I have no favorites, love them all! Nice post.

I know, right! No worries, I’ve been dreaming dreams of Jamaica for a while and dealing with that reality. Especially since my cruise was cancelled 😊.

I also am drawn to unique doors. Maltese doors were probably some of my favorites I’ve seen.

They say when one door closes another one opens, but I dunno…they all look closed to me.

I know. When I decided on “Travel Opens Doors” for the title, I wondered if anyone would take issue with the fact that none of the doors are open.

Haven’t thought about Buena Vista since my teens! My aunt even bought me a tshirt from there. You’ll be happy to know she (& I ) pronounced it appropriately 🙂 Great post!

Love your door series! Doors are so mysterious (what’s behind them?) and intriguing. You got some great ones. My mother always said that one can tell a lot about the inside of a house by its front door.

Beautiful doors. The one in France looks so similar to a picture of a door I’ve taken in Sienna, Italy.

Hi there, pretty neat post, never would I ever think I would look at doors and keep scrolling for more! =) I enjoyed it! Thanks. When we went backpacking in 2018 we were entertained by the clever bathroom signage in different countries. haha Some of the funniest were in Central America. You should check them out on our posts. lol
